From exterior paintwork to plastic trim, and glass and interior surfaces, ceramic coatings will thoroughly protect your vehicle from industrial and organic attack – keeping that detailed look for years, not weeks.

WHAT IS A CERAMIC COATING?

In a nutshell, a ceramic coating is like having a second-skin layer on top of your paintwork/wheels/glass/leather and plastics, a semi-permanent layer that bonds extremely well to the exterior and interior surfaces of your car. It substantially increases gloss, doesn’t wash off, and protects better than any wax or sealant can.

It also lessens the attack of organic and industrial agents like bird droppings, limescale, fallout, tree sap, tar, UV, acid rain and pollution. Ceramic coatings are self-cleaning, making it harder for dirt and grime to stick to surfaces and, in turn, speed up vehicle cleaning.

While a ceramic coating can lessen the risk of scratching and swirls, it is NOT  bulletproof, and is not a substitute for paint protection film (PPF). Distinct Detail will always educate clients on the real benefits and dispel any myths to make sure you enjoy the full performance coatings can provide.

THE BENEFITS OF CERAMIC TECHNOLOGY

Put simply, a ceramic coating forms a very durable protective layer on your vehicle, increasing gloss and making it really easy to clean:

MAKES SURFACES VERY EASY TO CLEAN

  SUPERIOR SURFACE GLOSS

  ENRICHES SURFACE COLOURS

  CHEMICAL & UV RESISTANCE

  5 YEAR/75 000km DURABILITY*

*When correctly maintained

WHAT CAN'T A CERAMIC COATING DO?

Ceramic coatings are amazing, and they offer a lot of benefits over traditional protectants, but let’s cover what they CAN’T DO.

  • A coating CANNOT protect against stone chips.
  • While it strengthens paintwork, It cannot stop swirls and scratches from occurring
  • It doesn’t mean your car never needs to be washed
  • It can be damaged by automatic washes

Despite the above, ceramic coatings are a true sacrificial barrier of protection for your vehicle – a layer that takes all of what nature and the road can throw at it until it is replaced.

PLEASE NOTE - The features of professional coatings are far superior to spray-type ceramic coatings, so always make sure your installer uses a professional-grade ceramic coating system and can verify the product with you present. Too many

THE PROCESS

PRIMING POLISHING STEP & PANEL PREPARATION

As all Paint Correction Detailing packages include ceramic coatings, we make sure the paint is ready and presentable to accept a ceramic coating. We ensure the use of filler and oil-free fine polishes in our finishing phase to maximise gloss and prepare the surface for coating application.

All exterior surfaces are thoroughly degreased using a professional grade panel wipe. This will remove any leftover residue from polishing and maximise the surface bond of coatings.

CERAMIC COATING APPLICATION

Depending on the level of protection required, we will either install one or two layers of your chosen ceramic coating protection to the exterior and interior of the vehicle (DEPENDANT ON PACKAGE CHOSEN) All of our paint correction detailing packages include:

  • Paintwork
  • Plastic trim
  • Head/tail lights
  • Side glass
  • Wheels, calipers, hubs and arches

INFRA-RED CURING & TOP COAT

Once the main coating layer has been applied we apply our top-coat chemical coating that bonds to the base layer and adds slickness and chemical resistance to the coating system.

Our coatings are then infrared-cured to set the coating system and aid in curing, making the vehicle ready for collection.

FAQs

View the answers below for the most common questions we receive about coatings.

  • Can I combine PPF and Ceramic Coating?

Yes! This is a popular combination, especially for vehicles that receive full frontal or extended PPF packages. All surfaces of the vehicle including the PPF are ceramic coated after PPF installation is complete.

Always remember that PPF HAS to be installed first, never on top of a ceramic coating otherwise there will be adhesion issues!

  • What brands do you use?

We are certified installers of SONAX, XPEL and LABOCOSMETICA Coatings. Depending on the vehicle and the owners needs we will always install the coating that meets requirements and budget.

  • How often should I coat my vehicle?

All of our coatings are rated at 5+ years or 75000 km. Mileage is always a better indication or measurement of durability, as every owner uses their vehicle differently.

Coatings will far outlast stated durability when maintained correctly. We suggest all clients return annually to decontaminate their vehicles and 'unclog' the coatings of contaminants not removed from normal washing.

This practice keeps your coating performing properly and allows you maximum return on your detailing spend.

We will also note and report on any damage coatings have sustained during maintenance and decontamination visits. These areas can then be addressed and repaired as necessary, without re-doing the full detailing process.

  • Is Paint Protection Film better than Ceramic Coatings?

PPF and Ceramics both have their place in professional detailing. Think of PPF as armour that your vehicle wears, whilst Ceramics as an overcoat that keeps everything cleaner and makes it easier to clean and maintain.

PPF protects against stone chips, abrasion and wear, and ceramic coatings increase gloss, last a very long time and make the surfaces of your vehicle (and ppf) resistant to soiling and easier to clean.

  • Why must my vehicle be paint corrected before coating or PPF?

Ceramic coatings will generally amplify swirls, scratches and marks on your vehicle, making them stand out even more and lock them in for the duration of coating. Paint correction allows for a good and clear paint surface that can maximise the gloss before ceramics are installed. This gives a better finish overall and increases durability.

PPF on the other hand can hide paint defects but only to a certain level - it can't hide everything, and applying it to a well prepared and defect-free surface again gives a better overall result and allows the ppf to bond better to the paint surface.

  • Why don't you have set pricing?

Every vehicle is different, from size to colour to condition (used or new) and because of that every vehicle is priced in terms of what scope of work and protection it requires.

At Distinct Detail we like to meet with every owner and inspect the vehicle, chatting through your expectations and  then curating packages and add-ons to meet (and even) exceed them!
